Features and Enhancements

Last update April 27, 2017

CA Spectrum 10.0.1 Updates

This release of CA Spectrum includes the following update:

CA Spectrum OneClick JRE certificate is renewed.

CA Spectrum 10.0 Features

This release of CA Spectrum includes the following features:

64-bit Support

This release of CA Spectrum supports 64-bit address space, which significantly increases capacity and scale. The beta and capacity testing has confirmed that Spectrum r10.0 supports 1 Million models per SpectroSERVER. OneClick manages same number of devices with fewer landscapes, and multiple SpectroSERVERs can be consolidated using the modeling gateway toolkit. Spectrum 64-bit support enables you to use the available computer resources better than the earlier releases that support 32-bit. See Integration Compatibility and System Requirements for more information.

Extended Network Virtualization

CA Spectrum 10.0 extends support for network virtualization by supporting the following two Cisco technologies:

Cisco Virtual PortChannel

This release of CA Spectrum discovers a vPC domain and its vPC channels along with their individual physical port connections. You can use the Spotlight View to highlight a vPC domain and also to see its vPC configuration table. The intelligent alarms, patented RCA, and Impact Analysis feature support the monitoring of a vPC domain. For more information, see Virtual PortChannel Support.

Cisco Virtual Switching System

This release of CA Spectrum discovers a virtual switch system (VSS). The VSS is represented using a new icon in OneClick. The physical switches are represented as individual chassis-container models within the virtual switch to correctly show their asset information (serial number, fan and power module status). Intelligent alarms, correlation, and root cause analysis support the monitoring of a VSS. For more information, see Virtual Switching System (VSS) Support.

New GIS View on OneClick Home Page

This release of CA Spectrum integrates GIS (Geographic Information System) Map to visualize the key and core devices of your network on a GIS Map, with their real time status. Multiple mechanisms are provided to input the devices that you intend to see on the Map. For more information, see OneClick Administration Pages.

New Quick Device Search

You can now search for a specific device or a set of devices easily from OneClick using the new Device Search bar. This device search complements the currently available locator search capabilities. You can enter the device name or IP address to find the matching device models. For more information, see Network Searches and Managing Searches.

Support for Maintenance and Hibernation Mode

This release of CA Spectrum lets you set an ESX host to Maintenance mode or Hibernation mode in OneClick to correlate all maintenance alarms on VMs to their ESX host maintenance alarm. As a result, you can suppress the creation of unnecessary alarms on the VMs during maintenance. For more information, see Place ESX Host in Maintenance Mode or Hibernation.

Support for Multi-Tenancy

This release of CA Spectrum allows a single CABI machine to generate reports for multiple SRMs to reduce the number of CABI or BOXI instances needed for deployment. For more information, see Business Objects Integration section.

Multi-SRM Administration

This release of CA Spectrum allows multiple SRM servers to use the same CABI server to generate reports from data collected by multiple SRM servers. This feature lets you gather a holistic report of your entire network infrastructure using the three new types of crystal reports. For more information, see Multi SRM Administration section.

CA Spectrum 10.0 Enhancements

This release of  CA Spectrum includes the following enhancements:

Convert Multiple SpectroSERVERS into a Single SpectroSERVER Using x64 Scale

The Spectrum 64-bit support feature added in Spectrum 10.0 release, enhances capabilities of scale, allowing you to maximize your existing computing resources. This means you can now manage more devices in a single landscape. For instance, you can now convert five or more SpectroSERVERs into a single SpectroSERVER using the enhanced capabilities of the Modeling Gateway Toolkit.

Multiple SpectroSERVER data files that are saved in XML format can now be consolidated into a single SpectroSERVER. The modeling gateway toolkit now supports importing multiple XML files together, separated by commas (csv). See the required command line prompts for consolidating SS data in XML files in Run the Modeling Gateway Toolkit for Import. For detailed information and specific procedures for this activity see, the 'Merging Databases' section in the FAQ page.

Enhanced Search Query Management

This release of CA Spectrum includes improvements to the Locater Search and Global Collection Search Query Management for large queries or searches. If search results exceed pre-defined threshold value (configurable), CA Spectrum now prompts for user confirmation before displaying models data. For more information, see Global Collections and Network Searches.

Support for Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux)

This release of CA Spectrum supports SELinux in Enforcing mode under RHEL 7.x. SELinux can also be changed to Permissive mode or disabled.

SELinux is a set of kernel modifications and user-space tools that have been added to various Linux distributions. Its architecture strives to separate enforcement of security decisions from the security policy itself and streamlines the volume of software charged with security policy enforcement.

CABI R4.1 SP3 Updates

Starting from CA Spectrum 10.0 release, you must install CABI r4.1 SP3. CA Spectrum 10.0 does not support earlier versions of CABI.

You must install the CABI 4.1 on a new, separate machine. You cannot install CABI on top of 3.x as CABI 4.1 does not support upgrades from 3.x. A new system is required to facilitate migration of data from a 3.x CABI host to the new CABI 4.1 host.

In CABI r4.1 SP3, 'InfoView' is changed to 'BI Launch Pad'.

After enabling the authentication on CABI, you must follow the below steps on CABI machine to get the authentication option on the BI Launch Pad:

  1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SC\CommonReporting4\tomcat\webapps\BOE\WEB-INF\config\custom.
  2. Open, add authentication.visible=true and save.
  3. Repeat step 2 at the following location also:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\SC\CommonReporting4\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\warfiles\webapps\BOE\WEB-INF\config\custom
  4. Stop tomcat and delete the content from the tomcat work directory.
  5. Start tomcat and open BI Launchpad.

For information on CABI data migration, refer to the topic Migrate Data from CABI 3.x to CABI 4.x Environment.

Could the statement above concerning SE Linux be modified to something a little more definitive? At the moment the statement doesn't tell me anything - is it supported to run under Permissive mode or Enforcing mode?

    What I mean is this:

Spectrum 10 is supported under RHEL 7 with SE Linux in Enforcing mode.

I have cross-checked with Prod Mgmt on this but for confirmation I suggest getting in touch with them.

      Hi Edward,

      Thank you for your feedback!

I updated the section accordingly, and added the selinux tag to this page.

Veeru, could you adjust the actual SELinux section? At the moment it just states that it supports it but gives absolutely no specifics at all. This is very misleading as it could be - enforcing or permissive or just that it will install in an environment with it present but turned off! This will all lead to questions for the support guys that they will need to answer. As in, better to nip things in the bud in the Release Notes with a definitive statement rather that something that could be interpreted in multiple ways.

Could the selinux tag be added to this page? It looks like I can only add personalised tags to it.
